This event was started in 1988 by a group of friends in Rocky. The Rockhampton area was very dead over that time as a lot of people headed to Brisbane and the Gold coast for New Year. Locals also went to Keppel Island or the Pine Beach Hotel at Emu Park. The accommodation places were almost completely empty in town.
The event has done everything from a 3 day to an 11 day suicide holiday. It has settled at 4 days to give the patrons that travel a reason to stay in the area. It has become well known as a place to bring overseas party animals because of its unique Australian flavour. Many of the great venues and activities in the area are blended together to create a great event. Over the years there has been a combination of Picnic Race days, Bullrides, Street parties, Toga and Cocktail parties, tourism days, cruises to Keppel Island, Ute Shows, Recovery and sport days, and the infamous New Years Eve Ball.
